oikos International February Newsletter

Welcome to the February edition of our newsletter!

This month is full of action in the oikos Community as we're making final preparations for the oikos Curriculum Academy which kicks-off this week. The LEAP and FutureLab teams are hard at work and the same goes to our friends from Carbon Literacy Project. We also have some exciting new projects on track like the oikos HOMEcoming Project and oikos Consultancy, which you can be a part of. Our Fundraising Team is also looking for new faces this month.

From our network we are happy to share with you the work of an enthusiastic member who translated the oikos Guide to Pluralist Economics to German. We also share an amazing opportunity from Youth4Climate with a trip to Milan later this year and the results of SOS International's last year's survey.

oikos Updates

oikos Curriculum Academy Open Evenings

oikos Curriculum Academy kicks-off on February 26 and the three-day workshop is followed by the Open Evenings from March 1 to 4. It is a new format for the traditional open days of oikos Academies, hosted by oikos St. Gallen in an effort to bring the importance of sustainability in education and curriculum change at the university. With a single session each day, the Open Evenings are open for everyone to attend, regardless of taking part in the workshop.

Apply for the LEAP Advanced Track!

oikos flagship Leadership Program - LEAP is getting ready for the new generation of leaders on the fifth edition of the Advanced Track, kicking-off on March 18! LEAP is a program that inspires young people to be more responsible and sustainable in their decision making, encouraging them to be proactive about change. The program is entirely free and open to all oikos Members and Alumni around the globe.

Reconnecting with our history - oikos HOMEcoming project

For over three decades, thousands of oikees have helped shape oikos what it is today and we feel the best way to show our gratitude and pay respect to that effort is to immortalize it, through putting together scattered pieces of our amazing history and making it easily accessible. The oikos HOMEcoming project aims to reconnect with our collective history, reorganize the archives and open them to the oikos world, taking learnings for future action. If this sounds interesting to you - you can join the team!

oikos Consultancy opens its doors to our community!

We're excited to introduce oikos Consultancy Thematic Squad! It is a student-run consulting project of oikos International focused on supporting startups, impact focus businesses and NGOs to accelerate their growth and their impact. With exciting oikos Consultancy projects already in track, we're looking to grow the team and are eager to welcome new faces from the oikos Community!

Taking a step towards low-carbon economy - join the Carbon Literacy Training!

Our partners The Carbon Literacy Project and the PRME Working Group on Climate Change and Environment have teamed up to bring you a global Carbon Literacy Training! The sessions are taking place every Wednesday from February 24 to March 17 and will equip you with the skills and information to allow you to take a step towards low-carbon economy.

oikos Guide to Pluralist Economics translated to German

Alongside the English and Italian versions, the oikos Guide to Pluralist Economics is now also available in German. It introduces readers to the wonderful world of pluralist economics education, which envisions an economics where a diverse set of theories and methods are taught to students in the undergraduate education.

Youth4Climate2021: Driving Ambition Event

Take part in the DrivingAmbition event representing your home country! You’ll have the chance to win a fully funded ticket to the event in Milan, Italy 🇮🇹 If selected, you’ll be able to discuss the issues that are important to you with the ministers attending pre-COP26. The deadline for applications ends February 28.

SOS International 2020 Survey: “Students, sustainability and education”

Last year our friends from SOS International ran a survey designed to gather insight into student experiences of sustainability and education. The results show awareness among students of the importance of sustainability and the lack of coverage it gets in the course curriculum, as well as their willingness to discuss more about the topic.
